Gary Dean Turner, 86, of rural Excelsior Springs, MO, passed away Wednesday morning, June 30, 2021, at his home with his family surrounding him.

Gary was born on September 10, 1934 in Orrick, MO, to William Layton Turner and Anna Lillian (Kirkham) Turner. Gary had lived his life in the Orrick and Excelsior Springs areas, having lived in his current home for over 50 years.  Gary attended and graduated from Orrick High School with the class of 1952. While in High School, he played on the football team and was a great football player. He had been a heavy machine operator for construction companies and was a member of Operating Engineers Local #101.

Gary liked to hunt, fish, and watch sports of all kinds. He loved his guns and liked collecting them. He liked being with his family and especially loved being around the grandkids. He also loved being around his many friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Guy Turner, who passed away on April 5, 2019.

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Rick and Kim Turner of Orrick, MO; a daughter, Terri Turner of Excelsior Springs, MO; and six grandchildren, Karen Turner (Curtis), Julie Berkey, Brian Turner, Kendall Turner, Trevor Turner and Lacie Turner-Burns (Tildon). He is also survived by seven great grandchildren, and friends from all over.

It was Gary's desire to be cremated. A celebration of life will be announced at a later date.
